So, if you want to learn Shannon’s biggest tools in how to build a successful online marketing business, so you too can create your dream life, then read on…
FIRSTLY, WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hey! Im Shannon. I do many things but in reference to work, I am a network marketer and online business mentor through the Breakaway Movement. I've been a part of this community since the beginning and I absolutely love what I do within this community.
I am originally from a small town on the eastern end of Long Island, NY, but decided that tropical island life was more my style. When I was twenty-four I moved to a tiny island far from the snow where I still live four years later.
I've done a decent bit of traveling throughout my twenties and really love experiencing cultures different than my own which is a huge spark as to why I started my online business, I'll dive more into that later on.
I am a traveler, surfer, harry potter lover, smile-er, plastic reducing enthusiast, ocean appreciator, sunshine frolicker, barefoot wandering gal who loves simple moments… Just to name a few.
WHAT IS YOUR WHY? (WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?)
When I first joined the community, what really attracted me was the freedom that comes along with being your own boss.
What I desired above all was to travel and live financially free. I wanted to pack a bag and board an airplane with no return flight. Now, two years later, I have countless memories doing exactly that - traveling from one place to the next and living the life I desired for so long, while embodying financial freedom.
My “why” has shifted a bit over the last two years.
Something I didn’t expect, was the sense of empowerment that I feel, which emerged when I took the leadership role within my life. This is something I wish to share and encourage within others, especially the team I work closely with.
My greatest wish is to assist others in uncovering their potential, while creating their dream life and embodying empowerment from within.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
It shifts a lot, but one thing that stays consistent is that I love to spend my mornings connected with nature. When I first wake up, I like to spend my first two hours or so focused on myself and whatever it is that I feel called to do that morning. Sometimes I'll wake up early and go surf, which is my favourite way to start the day. Other mornings I’ll wait for the sun to come up and then i'll go for a run on the beach. I also appreciate slow mornings in bed cuddled next to my cat with a good book.
Then, after I’ve given myself time in the morning, I know that I have the day ahead to focus on work and showing up for others.
I really like to work outside of the house, usually at a coffee shop. That way none of my distractions around my house are there. Work can change from day to day, but usually I check in with messages first and respond back to teammates’ questions. Then after catching up with my personal team, I check in with the Breakaway Community chats. If we have any community calls that day, I’ll tune into those. Mix in some creative projects when it comes to promoting or providing info for my team, and that sums up what it’s looked like lately for work.
I love spending my evening connecting with friends, cooking dinners together, or even taking myself for a walk on the beach at sunset, followed by a homemade meal. If I’m hanging solo, I often get caught in a night owls creation mode, working on other passion projects and personal branding content.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE ONLINE MARKETING?
Online marketing came into my life when I desired freedom most. I wanted to travel more than anything, but my employment and lack of funds while traveling always held me back.
Online marketing has allowed me to travel continuously, thanks to the income I am making and the fact that I no longer need to request vacation time from a boss.
IF YOU HAD ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WAS INTERESTED IN STARTING UP, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
“Follow the path of your greatest excitement.” Whatever that looks like for you. That’s the best advice I can give.
When I was given that advice, it really allowed me to start living from my heart and not from societal expectations or comparison to others.
The next piece of advice would be that, if you find yourself comparing yourself to others, which leads you to doubting yourself… yeah, don’t do that. Use other people's success to set a standard of belief, that you can too achieve your goals.
WHAT HAS ONLINE MARKETING ALLOWED YOU TO DO?
Traveling is a big one. As I mentioned, it was a huge dream for me to travel with no return flight. Two months after starting my online business, I traveled for nine months straight and loved every moment of it.
I learned to surf, which was a childhood dream of mine and one of my biggest accomplishments to date. Surfing brings me joy in this life unlike anything else. It’s a magical connection to have with the ocean.
One of my favourite things I’ve been able to do, is give back and not only with money but with my time. I have been able to volunteer at beach cleanups and animal rescue projects. These projects assist street animals in developing countries to provide medication, food and water to animals in need.
Before working for myself, I was never able to participate in these opportunities because I was always working during community events.
But once I started creating my own schedule, I was able to show up and offer my time. I love volunteering with local non profits that focus on cleaning the beach and ocean. I even put together a beach clean up with about ten other BAM members on Maui when I was there visiting last year.
HOW DO YOU HANDLE ADVERSITY AND DOUBT?
I think compassion with myself has been huge. I think that I’ve placed more doubt on myself than anyone else, and maybe someone reading this can relate. That's when compassion comes into play. I look at how far I’ve come over the last few years since diving into self development, and really see the magic in what I’ve created.
These moments remind me to be easy on myself and to connect back to my reason for doing this work.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE TOP 3 SKILLS YOU NEED TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL?
- Motivation is a major key. No one is going to build your business for you. The resources are there and the support is there, but you have to be the one to take hold and put in the work.
- Connection to your why. If you don’t have a connection to your why, it’s easy to get lost in this online world and compare yourself to someone else’s journey. When you connect to your why, it brings you back to you and your reason for being here.
- Number three and I think the most important, is patience. Have patience in the process. It's not an easy one, but it's so important to have patience with yourself and the process of growing your business. There will be challenge after challenge presented along your journey, that will break down limiting beliefs and test you. But the moment you triumph over those challenges and roadblocks, the feeling of inner power is sweet like honey and so so worth it.
Remember, your journey is unique and unlike anyone else’s, so tune in with your motivation, stay connected to your why, and have patience in carving your own path.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
I would firstly point out how poorly young Shannon spoke to herself. I really beat myself up with my thoughts. I was constantly criticising myself for who I was and the limiting beliefs I placed upon myself and took on from others.
My advice would be to learn the art of self love, as well as self acceptance. Learn the art of meditation and sink into the present moment. Start filling your days with new things, and begin to learn what it is that you feel passionate about, with the hopes that self criticism will start to fade out and be replaced with confidence and comfortability within your skin.
I also think learning what it means to play the victim in my life would have been a huge game changer for me in my younger years. I'm glad I know this now but had I had it then, maybe I would have chosen to live more powerfully by taking control, instead of the “poor me” attitude.
WHAT WAS THE LAST GIFT YOU GAVE TO SOMEONE?
I recently gifted one of my best friends a rose quartz. It was one of my own that I purchased last year along my travels through Australia. I slept with that rose quartz underneath my pillow every night because I was once told that if you place an object underneath your pillow, your subconscious will then focus on that thought while you sleep, amplifying the intention behind it.
(*Hint, you should try this at home.*)
My intention with this crystal was to bring in more love into everything I do and everything I create. More loving connections, more loving conversations, more self love, more love in all areas of life really.
My best friend moved off island recently and I wanted him to take more love with him wherever he goes, including some of my love.
IF YOU WERE TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD YOU NAME IT?
My first reaction to this question was like leave it a mystery. I truthfully do wish to write a book about my life someday, so I think I’ll keep the real title up in my brain, but for now…
Title: You’re a Wizard, Shannon.
