Shana has been running her online empire for just under 2 years now and is on track to earn over $320k this year - safe to say, her success is undeniable and her passion is next level! Throughout this interview, Shana shares all of her advice, journey and the importance behind your ‘why’.
So, if you want to know Shana’s secrets for building a successful online business, read on…
FIRSTLY, WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Shana Samot. First and foremost, I am a mom to Kainoa (22 months)! My husband and I are also Kangen Water Distributors and co-founders of the Breakaway Movement, a support platform to assist 1,000+ members in their entrepreneurial journeys as well as 650+ other Kangen Distributors.
WHAT IS YOUR WHY? (WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?)
My husband and I decided to pour all of our energy and love and commitment into our family. That is our why. We started this business when my son was one month old - I was previously a public school teacher, making $34,000 a year, with a masters and $100,000 in student loan debt. My husband was bartending 6 nights a week. We had worked opposite schedules for close to ten years, without even thinking about it - It was just how we were able to financially survive. My son came along and made us stop and think about it for the first time. Starting a family was always our dream, and we weren't going to mess it up by just sticking with the "norm".
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
We wake up early, 6-7am. My son loves to get outside first thing in the morning so we usually head off to the playground before other children are even out of bed! When he goes down for his morning nap, my husband and I quickly jump on our To-Do List for the day. We try to make this the day before, so we prioritize our time. Work for us consists of checking emails, jumping into the platform and working on updated trainings, providing support to the users, jumping on a work call or a coaching call, and following up with leads, etc. Some days are CRAZY busy and others are slower, but we find so much joy in what we do. We are currently living in an RV that we have renovated into our dream home. When we are in the US (about half the year) this is what we travel in full time. So whether we are in the US or out of the US, our afternoons are for us as a family - to explore and enjoy each others company. The amazing thing about working online is that we also can work from our phones - so if we are out for the afternoon, we are still able to quickly jump on a call or answer a message - but we put our phones away from 5pm-8pm to be able to focus solely on our son during dinner and before bed. When Kainoa goes down for the nap, its adult time - reading a book, jumping on our weekly team calls, watching a movie, etc.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE ONLINE MARKETING?
We wanted flexibility - we wanted to be able to raise our son and be as present as possible. We wanted to show him the world - on our own schedule. We wanted to be financially free - and not have Kainoa grow up watching his parents stress about paying bills, argue over money, or have a negative money mindset. We wanted to welcome abundance into our lives in all forms. Working online for ourselves, growing a business that started as a way to bring in some additional income and grow it into something that was going to transform our lives, was a no-brainer. We had owned a Kangen machine solely for the health benefits for about 3 years, and were so passionate about the water and were already sharing it with everyone we knew, so why not start turning it into an income?
IF YOU HAD ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WAS INTERESTED IN STARTING UP, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Be clear on your why. Remind yourself of it every day. Be patient with yourself. You are going to grow, learn and change so much in your first few years of entrepreneurship. It’s all a learning experience, but if you are committed, motivated and passionate about what you are doing, it’s going to be incredible.
WHAT HAS ONLINE MARKETING ALLOWED YOU TO DO?
It’s allowed me to see how incredible I am. I am a full time dedicated mother, wife and entrepreneur. I have grown a business in 18 months from the ground up. I am now supporting 600+ people with online marketing and have been able to bring in 10 times more in those 18 months than what I was making teaching. It still blows my mind, but I am so aware of the abundance in the world and I know that I am deserving of it. Alongside my husband, we have been able to fulfil our dreams of renovating an RV and traveling full time. In the past 18 months, we have explored the entire east coast, been to Hawaii 3 times, and celebrated my sons first birthday in Belize. We are spending the next 5 months in Maui and New Zealand. We have been able to gift our family with flights and experiences. We have been able to donate, and gift money to friends to invest in themselves. We have connected and formed strong relationships with so many people online who went from strangers to family. We are at all times making sure we only surround ourselves with high vibrational people who are encouraging us to be the best people we can be. We have supported so many people in creating their realities, in being able to step away from their 9-5's and create an incredible life for themselves and loved ones. We have raised a beautiful, funny, thriving son and we have been by his side the entire time.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE ADVERSITY AND DOUBT?
Such a good question! I always remind myself of my why. I ask myself If I truly value their opinions - Are they where I want to be? Are they actively working on achieving their own goals? If not, I don't let it bother me. I read - everyone should always have a personal development book with them at all times. I listen - to those who inspire me and to those who are showing up for me as mentors. I know how easy it is to fall into the "norm" and I am gentle and understanding when people with "lack mindsets" try to question what I am doing, or why I am taking "risks" - it’s the way they were raised, what they were taught - I will never hold it against them, but I know that I will never allow myself to connect with their level of vibration. I am aware of all that is coming my way and I am open to receiving it.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE TOP 3 SKILLS YOU NEED TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL?
They might not be seen as "skills" but these 3 things are what I feel are most important
1. Passion - passionate about what you do, what you are selling, who you are working with.
2. Time Management - I can get all my work done in 2 hours if I am focused. If not, It could easily turn into 10 hours. I choose 2 hours - any day.
3. Connections - Surround yourself at all times with people who are raising your vibrations. Connect with them, mastermind with them, hold each other accountable. I would never be where I am today if I didn't have my people around me.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
Stop and Think. TRULY think about where you are and where you want to be. Are you happy? Do you wake up excited and motivated every day? If not, let’s change that.
WHAT WAS THE LAST GIFT YOU GAVE TO SOMEONE?
Today, I sent each member in my family a personal video of my son speaking to them. I try to add joy into peoples lives every day and my family is OBSESSED with Kainoa so this was instant joy for them. Yesterday, I treated my incredible friend to a smoothie and sat and caught up for an hour. Last week, we surprised my in-laws with an all expenses paid trip to Maui for Thanksgiving - They have talked about Hawaii for the 12 years I have known them, so I knew it was time to make it a reality for them.
IF YOU WERE TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD YOU NAME IT?
Ahhh, these questions always get me - Let’s go with "Motivated Mama"! Haha. Not really! But it will take me weeks to come up with a real one...
